Castor Oil marketed by Baidyanath is a rather very famously known oil whose uses date back to the egyptian era. It was also used in the vedic periods to induce labor in women. It consists of antimicrobial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory medicinal properties that cleanses the body and skin from all salts and toxins.

This laxative is not only good for treating constipation (Virechana) but also relieves worms (Kurmihara), treats wounds (Vranhara), treats stomach tumours (Gulmahara), reduces pain in joints and muscular areas (Sulaghnam), increases immunity, fights acne and fungus, improves skin complexion (Varnya) and is also good for giving you long, shiny and thick hair (Keshya). It is also known to treat problems like cerebral palsy, ringworm yeast infection and Parkinson’s disease.  This oil contains Omega 6 & 9, Vitamin E and other proteins.

This oil has been used since centuries and had been mentioned several times in Puranic and Ayurvedic scriptures due to its vast popularity. It is known as Gandharvahasta or Eranda taila in Ayurveda. It is an oil extracted from the plant Ricinus communis. It is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine in healing of ovarian cysts, wrinkles, asthma, arthritis, constipation and other problems.

Ingredients :

Castor bean (Ricinus communis): Castor oil is obtained from extracting oil from the Ricinus communis plant. After harvesting, these seeds are dried so that the seed exterior will split open.  These seeds have a toxic enzyme called ricin but heating these seeds to obtain the oil makes it safe to use.

How to use :

This oil can be mixed with sesame or almond oil and then should be applied to the scalp or skin depending where the affected area is. Then this oil should be massaged on the area for about 5-10 minutes. If applied on hair it should be kept for at least 2 hours before washing it. Keeping it overnight is even more beneficial.

For consumption purposes, for adults a dose of 30mg is recommended and 5-15mg for children. However, a professional ayurvedic or medicinal doctor should be consulted. To mask the taste of it, it can be kept in the fridge for at least an hour for it to cool before consumption. It is best to be had plain but one can also mix it in juice. It isn’t recommended to consume it before bedtime and also shouldn’t be consumed too often. Every 4-6 months does the trick.
