In Unani system of medicine, arthritis is described under a broad term Waja-ul-Mafasil which encompasses entire joint disorders like inflammatory, non-inflammatory, infectious, metabolic and other musculoskeletal disorders. Among them, Majoon Suranjan is one of the most reputed poly pharmaceutical preparations of Unani system of Medicine used in Waja-ul-Mafasil. This Unani compound formulation contains twenty ingredients, which is used as digestive, purgative, anti inflammatory, stomachic, deobstruent, antiarthritic, nervine tonic. It is also indicated for use in phlegmatic diseases.
Roghan Badam Shirin – It is a unique Unani formulation made from 100 % pure, sweet almond oil; giving you all the goodness of this power house of nutrients. Halela Zard – The herb has rejuvenative, laxative, astringent, purgative and dry properties. Paste made from the herb is effective in healing process of the wounds and ulcers. It also reduces swelling and acts as a cleanser. The herb relieves the eyelids in conjunctivitis. Applying Harad powder along with coconut oil in the form of paste is used to heal wounds due to its astringent property. It also helps fight against infectious agents and prevents skin infections. Harad extract can also be applied on the eyelids to manage certain eye diseases as it acts as a nerve tonic.
Suranjan Shirin Safed – It is specially indicated in Gout, Rheumatism, Sciatica, Arthritis, Spasmodic Attacks, Wounds and Phlegmatic Affections. It is specially used to reduce the pain and inflammation of acute gout, arthritis and rheumatism. It is also useful in sexual debility. It is anti-inflammatory, diuretic, aphrodisiac and expectorant and also anti-arthritic in action.
Gule Surkh – Rose petals are used in making rose oil that is steam distilled by crushing. The byproduct of steam distillation is rose water, which is an excellent relaxing agent, soothes the nerves and adds flavor to a variety of dishes across the world. Rose essence is rich in flavonoids, tannins, antioxidants, and vitamins A, B3, C, D and E, making it beneficial in skin care. Rose water is an effective astringent that reduces swelling of capillaries beneath the skin.
Zanjabeel – It is a very important drug of house hold medicine kit used mainly as antiflatulant, digestive, anti cough and other indications mentioned in traditional Unani text. Beside its traditional uses its new indications are as an, ant-emetic, hypocholesterolaemic antioxidant, antimicrobial, cardioprotective etc. Zanjabeel, Adrak, Sonth are common names of dry ginger. It is appetizer, laxative, stomachic, stimulant, anodyne, aphrodisiac, expectorant, anthelmintic and carminative and is found to be beneficial in jaundice, cough, hiccough, colic, diarrhea, flatulence, anorexia, dyspepsia, pile, hyperacidity, abdominal pain, vomiting, inflammations and rheumatoid arthritis. Dry ginger is hot in potency and reduces wind and phlegm in the body.
