Raita Masala by Munshi Panna is a plant based combination of various spices for the preparation of raita. Raita comes from the Sanskrit word ‘rajika’ which meansblack mustard seed or sharp and pungent taste. It is made by the combination of milk or yogurt with other spices that enhances its flavor.

It was first originally used in North India before due to its extreme cold temperatures there and hence it was used to help in the process of digestion. Also, it was used because of its more flavourful and spicy texture which kept the body warm instead of having plain dahi. Raita has been used since the 19th Century. Today it’s used as a side dish with biryani, vegetables, curries or even plain. Along with this raita masala it is most common that people add ‘boondhi’ or grisp gram flour balls to add a little crispiness to it. 

 

Active Ingredients :

Zira (Cuminum cyminum): Zira or jeera is a commonly used kitchen ingredient. It has antioxidant and anticancer properties. It helps control blood sugar levels, diarrhea, fights bacterial and parasites due to its anti-inflammatory properties, lowers cholesterol and helps in weight loss. It is also effective in the prevention of food-born illnesses.

Salt (Edible common salt): Salt is the most basic and simple ingredient used to cook or bake any dish. It improves metabolism, relieves cramps, sore throat, stress, balances blood pressure and maintains skin texture. 

Ginger (Zingiber officinale): Ginger has been known to improve digestion, sore throat, muscular pain, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, hypertension, fever and dementia. Ginger is also used to relieve morning sickness.  It also has anti-inflammatory properties used to treat piles and haemorrhoids. It also has antibacterial properties which makes it effective on the skin. It acts as a toner on the skin and gives you a fresh and radiating glow. It is also used to promote hair growth and provide nourishment to the hair and scalp.

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum): Fenugreek helps in improving digestion, lowers blood sugar levels, increases breast milk production and weight of newborn babies. It is rich in minerals like iron and magnesium. It also boosts testosterone and sexual problems in men. It also has many anti-inflammatory properties. As it regulates the blood sugar level it helps in the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Composition of Raita Masala: Black salt (Black salt), Cumin (Cuminum cyminum), Table salt (Edible common salt), Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), Yellow pepper (Yellow chilli), Black pepper (Piper nigrum), Mint (Mentha), Asafoetida (Ferula assa-foetida).

How to use :

Sprinkle a pinch of this masala over curd or vegetables. Store in a cool dry place..
